Social Networks: A Communication Inventory for Individuals with Complex Communication Needs and their Communication Partners ![]() This assessment and intervention planning tool includes a Manual and Inventory Booklet designed to help professionals work with family members and individuals with complex communication needs to determine the most appropriate technologies and communication strategies for communication with partners in various context. Social Networks Video & DVD ![]() The Social Networks Video features five individuals with complex communication needs and their “social network” of family, friends, acquaintances, paid professionals and people in the community (store clerks for example.) The video depicts how the Social Networks Communication Inventory by Sarah Blackstone and Mary Hunt Berg can assist teams in (1) setting goals, (2) measuring outcomes, (3) making transition plans and (4) preparing IEPs, IPPs and so on. Also, the Social Networks video can increase the likelihood that teams collaborate and make good decisions about assistive technology recommendations. The Social Networks DVD includes the video (see above), plus expanded interviews with Michael B. Williams (on using multi-modalities), Elisa Kingsbury (tips for administering Social Networks), and David P. Wilkins (a linguist's perspective on using Social Networks with people with aphasia).

A strand of the 2004 International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC) Research Symposium focused on Social Networks. Translations To date, we are granted permission for the Social Networks manual and inventory booklet to be translated into several languages, including Catalan, Chinese, Danish, German, Hebrew, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish.
